gig review: wild nothing & local natives

last week i attended the wild nothing/local natives gig in toronto. i had never been so last minute with purchasing concert tickets. i literally got it the day before. local natives came to toronto last year (if i'm not mistaken) but it was 19+, so i was REALLY gutted. plus, i was also a bit pissed because the gig was all ages this time. before going into the actual event itself, can i please rant about how expensive the tickets were? it was by far the priciest concert i went to ($35), which doesn't seem much compared to prices back home. usually, tickets are max $30, or if the venue is pretty low-key it can be $15 (which some locals still find quite pricey). but idk, i should be grateful because tickets in singapore and australia are double that price. sorry guys.

album review: foals - "holy fire"

i've been anticipating for this album ever since foals finished their total life forever tour, so naturally, i had high expectations. when foals released "inhaler" it seemed like "holy fire" will be THE album of 2013. they were smashing it. when "my number" came out, i was still in this mindset. they brought the old pop song back. but the time "late night" debuted i became worrisome - it felt like they were trying to find harmony in a piece that clearly sounded like it was falling apart (specifically when yannis' guitar solo kicked in). youtube videos of foals playing their new songs live made me even more nervous, especially when i heard "cleaver" (which is "providence" on the album), and it felt painful listening to it as the song crumbles apart. but based on a rather recent interview with yannis, he did mention that this was a technique they were fiddling around with.
